Shaping Seattle: Property & Building Activity mapOver the past two years, SDCI released several convenient permit research tools in the form of new and improved map layers in our Shaping Seattle map application. We wanted to remind you about all the features and information that you can now easily find as you are searching for complete information related to land use & construction permits, rental housing registrations, and complaints and violations.

Our team optimized these maps to work best on mobile devices so you can quickly find information about properties you see when walking in your neighborhood. All data is refreshed daily so the information presented is current and up to date.

Here are brief descriptions of the specific features and information found within each layer.

Shaping Seattle: Property & Building Activity map: find active construction and land use permits and proposals in your neighborhood. The map makes it easier to research active permits, find related documents and permit records, view upcoming Design Review meeting dates, and comment on land use permits under review.

Each project has a detail page that provides several key pieces of information in an easy-to-use format. Simply click on the blue dot to get additional information, including:

  • Image of the project (for projects subject to Design Review)
  • Project description
  • Project milestones during the permitting process
  • Links to related records and documents
  • Public comment option (for land use projects only)
  • Incentive zoning and mandatory housing affordability information (if applicable)
  • Upcoming public Design Review and land use meetings

Shaping Seattle: Rental Housing Registrations map: find and track information for rental properties in your community. This new map displays current Rental Registration and Inspection Ordinance (RRIO) information for rental property in Seattle, including registration and inspection status and violation information.

Each registered rental property has a detail page that outlines basic information for compliance with the RRIO program. • Registration status and date of registration

Shaping Seattle: Property & Building Complaints map: find complaints and track when the City determines a violation is present. This map displays active complaints, violations, and the actions taken by our Code Compliance division to help bring properties into compliance with community standards.

We address several types of complaints including housing standards, lands use violations, construction without a permit, shoreline, tree cutting, and tenant issues like deposit return and unlawful evictions. Complaints and violations have a detail page that outline compliance tools used by our inspectors. Simply click on the red dot to get additional information, including:

  • Photo of the violation (if available)
  • Complaint descriptions (as submitted to us)
  • Complaint and violation status
  • Inspection status
